I always wanted to be like my grandmother. That was where God was, in her. When there was something wrong in our family, Mom would call Grandmother and ask for prayers. Even at a young age, when she would say she'd get with her prayer partner across the tracks, the prayers would be answered. Grandma had a direct line to God!

During the day she be singing hymns and thanking God for every little thing. She would go. to bed praying, and rise in the morning praying. She knew where God was in her life. I still want to be like her. However, just like everybody else, this world pulls us away from keeping God here in our lives.

What an incredible memory and tribute to a saint in our midst. Praying without ceasing seems like another daunting idea from Paul until you see its power in the life of a saint. Thank you for this testimony (and reminder) of the power of practicing the presence of God each moment of each day.

I would share but it’s hard through the tears.

I must ponder and read again.

Thank you brother. Abba used your words to continue to uncover a life long wound that has impacted all my interactions with people. My healing has come in layers and this was a significant layer. Thank you for your faithfulness in sharing your journey with the Body of Christ.

I'm praying for you right now, by name. The Spirit is tender in our healing, allowing each layer to unfold at a timing and pace the Spirit knows we can handle. One step at a time.

That’s a beautiful post. I feel that, deeply. It makes me think of the song Blessings by Laura Story. ‘What if your blessings come through raindrops, what if your healing comes through tears? What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know you’re near?’ Those lyrics often play in my head at 2 or 3 in the morning as I’m trying to go back to sleep but wrestling with the same God where are you? Praying for others and then realizing I should be so grateful for the bed I’m in and the covers that keep me warm, because there are so many who don’t have that. And I struggle with not doing enough, but I recall the words I’ve heard you speak (listening online) that prayer is warfare. I wonder how many of us awaken at that hour to be called into prayer for others, called into battle as it were, and to be reminded of how grateful we should be for all his blessings! Thank you for that reminder as we start this busy day.

Deanna, I too have tried to re-orient my heart and mind regarding this mid-sleep "interruptions" as possibly God calling me to pray. Too often we are the ones who dictate "when" we pray, but I wonder if God is nudging us awake because he wants to set the time for us to talk on occasion as well. Thanks for this, friend.
