Who am I?
My name is Shane J. Wood (PhD, University of Edinburgh, UK), and I’m a biblical scholar focused on the intersection of scripture and spiritual formation. As Professor of New Testament & Its Origins at Ozark Christian College (Joplin, MO) for over fifteen years, I’ve taught courses on the gospels, Roman history, biblical justice, the book of Revelation, and much more. What will you find in this Substack?
Spiritual deserts are filled with struggle and strain, loneliness and longing. Yet, Scripture and history testify to this truth: God does his best work in the desert.
These writings are my journey, my exploration of the God of the desert. My posts will wrestle with the contours of transformation, struggles of leadership formation, and raw aspects of the Christian life that honor and struggle with scriptural insights.
Why subscribe?
In addition to a wide variety of audio and video resources, I’m providing these writings as a gift to the church. An honest expression of life in the desert. A challenge to all Christians, from the pulpit to the pews, to embrace life in the desert as a unique intersection with the God of new beginnings.
